In Vellore, ISKCON was legally started by HG Akinchana Krishna Das (Manager, ISKCON Vellore) inspired by HH Bhakti Vikasa Swami in 2003 at a place called Toll Gate with few brahmacharis. By 2006, many devotees started practising devotional service, some joined the brahmachari ashram and the centre got shifted to Gandhi Nagar in the middle of the town. In 2011, ISKCON Vellore purchased a land, of tract eight acres, which is located at a distance of nine kms from Vellore City and two kms from Chennai-Bangalore Highway in a place known as Poigai Mottur, for the temple construction. In 2012, a temporary temple hall named Prasadham Bhavan was opened by HH Bhakti Vikasa Swami Maharaj. In 2013, a goshala was started for protecting the cows from slaughtering.
